Dear ChevelleBigBlock.com,

I have a 1970 Chevelle for sale. It has a small block but I hope you will still allow this to be posted :-)))

It's an amazing project, here's the ad:

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS supersport

This muscle car is a candidate of choice for an off-body restoration and in the meantime can also be
your ride for little work.

I am the owner of the vehicle; I have all the paper work (lien of sale) and all prior registration fees were
taken care of so no surprises for the next owner!!!

This is a 2-door hard top Chevelle of the best vintage (1970). Might be a SuperSport, just check all the
standard SS features that it has and make your own opinion.

Body is straight and solid, with little rust, mostly superficial.

Transmission and engine were rebuilt recently with the best components:

- Engine looks like a 350 that might have been bored to higher specs (383?). Suffix code is M04250VP.
Casting number is 10066036 (upper rear of the engine, driver side, close to the transmission bell).
Engine is bright red, enamel is real nice. Gaskets are tight and clean, no leaks.

Note: we did not bother opening it up to check if it had customed cranckshaft and all but all the
components around suggest strongly that the car was set up for quarter-miile racing (small block + small
radiator = gain of weight, front calipers were moved to the back of the wheel, 12 bolts positraction, L41?
Also, before we rebuilt the carburator, choke was fully open suggesting a set-up for starting at full power.
Springs look like heavy duty truck springs).

- We replaced the huge electronic Borg Warner truck fuel pump that was in the rear with a brand new
Edelbrock mechanical one (Edelbrock #7210). We added an extra fuel filter and a fuel regulator,
currently set at 3.5.

- Freshly rebuilt 4 barrel Weber (#1405) 600cfm Edelbrock performance series carburator. Check the
video to hear how it roars!!!!!!!!

- Edelbrock "Performer RPM" intake manifold (#7101). Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifolds have
a high-rise, dual-plane layout, with a 180 degree firing order. They produce incredible top-end
horsepower, while retaining good throttle response. Performer RPMs have larger plenums and runners
to match the free-flowing exhaust, high-lift cams, and other modifications of a high-output engine.
They're intended for high-performance street or competition engines that run from 1,500 to 6,500 rpm.

- Aluminium M/T Mickey Thompson valve covers (made in Japan, #140 R-50B and #140 L-50B). These
are pretty sharp and rare!

Edelbrock claims that this set up with a stock 350 develops over 400HP at 5000rpm. So if you buy this
car, no hassle with the numbers, you already got yourself a freaking MOOOOOOOOOONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- I think the transmission is a 2-gear powerglide, the perfect choice for racing. I'm not sure but please
confirm when looking at the patent numbers on the pictures!

SS FEATURES: IT LOOKS LIKE ALL THE STANDARD SS OPTIONS ARE THERE:

- Proper vented SS hood (not cowl induction, I don't think it existed in 1970) with front pins.
- 12 bolt rear axle.
- round dash gauges.
- Heavy duty rear suspension (with rear sway bar), looks like L41.
- front disk brakes.
- Also comes with nice bucket seats (not original).
- SS grid.

I probably forget more stuff....

RACING FEATURES (on top of the SS features):

- 2-gear power-glide transmission (less transitions = reaches full power faster!)

- Huge electric Borg Warner fuel pump that was in the back is now replaced with new mechanical
Edelbrock fuel pump.

- Carburator choke was locked on open position.

- front wheel calipers were moved backward (check pictures) which is common practice for racing (better
handling).

- Welded hooks on the under-carriage in engine compartment to harness the over-powered engine.

- Had 15 inch rims in the front and 14 inch rims in the back. This is typical racing practice with slightly
bigger wheels in the front.

- Swaping in a small block spares over 200 pounds. Same idea with the radiator (smaller size).

- I'm not sure if the front springs are original but they sure look like heavy duty springs more like what a
truck would have.

I probably forget other evidences but I might ad them along the way if it comes to my mind.

WHAT IT NEEDS:

- Body work, mostly quarter panels and driver compartment rear corners under the passenger bench (cf
pictures).

- Paint job

- Missing the RH side exhaust pipe and muffler. LH is quite old.
- New or reshaped/rechromed front bumper (most likely torn by careless towing).
- Driver compartment needs complete overhaul/upholstery. It has what looks like a proper SS dashboard
(with the round gauges), and also has nice GM bucket seats so that's a good start. Looks like at least
the door panels were custom made in the past and we added the new seat covers.

- Brakes look nice and we'll probably bleed them before sale. For registering the car in CA (I don't know
about other states) you'll need to go through a brake-and-light check at the DMV. It should be straight
forward.

To make the story short you could drive it with little work while planning your frame-off restoration.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

VIN has the original "rose" rivets: 136370L 157018

TRIM TAG reads:

ST 70-13637 BL 21308 BDY
TR 755 28 28 PNT
2B 369787 11 0585

Here's what all these numbers mean:

1: Chevrolet Division of General Motors
2&3: series code; 36 denotes Malibu eight cylinder and SS; on this one there's no way to know whether
it's a Malibu or a Supersport, but as the car comes with most of the SS features.... Please make you
mature opinion on this one!!!!!!!
4&5: body style; 37 is 2-door sport coupe.
6: model year, will always be zero for 1970.
7: Assembly plant: Los Angeles
8-13: The last 6 numbers (157018) are the sequential numbers, or the order in which the car was built.
These numbers can be used in cross checking with the pad on the engine for a match. Unfortunately,
original engine is long gone...

The trim tag or data plate holds some important data:

ST (style): 1970 hard top (70-13637)

TR (trim): Black vinyl bench (755). The car has GM Black vinyl bucket seats that are code 756 so it's
even better than original!

PNT (paint code): Fathom Blue for both lower and upper body (28/28). One can see the original paint on
every body parts but the hood, which is a nice vented hood with front pins. Again, it might be the original
or not, who cares, cause it's a great one!. Hood needs hinges welded.

Final body assembly date: second week of February 1969

To summerize:

This car was set up for quarter-mile drag racing and is therefore VERY powerful and video shows you
how healthy engine is. Among other special features are the front brakes that are positioned in the rear
of the wheels. These guys were experts for sure as they did pick the perfect stock car for this matter and
really knew what they were doing!

The car is solid and straight. Not many previous paint work (original Fathom blue paint still visible) and
ZERO bondo. Just an old car with surface rust and a couple of rust holes at expected areas (quarter
panels and driver compartment rear corners under the passenger bench, cf pictures).

When we purchased the car, we had it inspected and put back in running condition with the following
work:
- New windshield
- New water pump
- New distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, etc
- New Edelbrock fuel pump (part #7210) and fuel filters

- New Edelbrock air intake (#1208)
- New seat covers.

- Fuel regulator

- We also added a newer set of tires (SUMITOMO P215/70R15). To put the complete set of tires on the
car we had to find 2 rims for the rear and the car currently has the 4 newer tires on. The 2 rear 14 inch
rims that came with the car are in the trunk.

To conclude, this is the perfect candidate for off-body restoration but can also be driven with little work in
the meantime.
